"But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too."

Acts 17:6

Why "Turning The World Upside Down"?

In the context of the passage, the gospel message preached to the Jews there in Thessalonica caused a great uproar, and the accusation was made against the Christians and those harboring them by saying: “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.”

This accusation made by the Jews was incorrect, however from their perspective as those who did not believe in Jesus, the gospel was turning their worldview upside down. In actuality, the gospel being preached turns the world right-side up and brings people into fellowship with God. The gospel is a message that brings peace and order to the lives of those who obey it and live it. By the grace of God, this new way of life has brought about our holiness and will lead to us living with God in Heaven for eternity.

If we believe this, we have an obligation, both by direct commandment from our Lord, and also as a result of sheer gratitude to our God, that we share this gospel message with others.
